Local Building Conditions

Older housing stock

Euclid's median home was built in the mid-1950s, and about half of the houses went up in the 1950s and 1960s. Many of the neighboring suburbs grew in the same post-war years. After sixty or seventy years, block foundations have open mortar joints, sill plates have shrunk and soffits, vents and chimneys have gaps. Mice, squirrels and stink bugs use all of them. Sealing is part of almost every job we do here.

Lake-effect moisture

Lake Erie keeps the air humid through the summer, and many basements stay damp from late spring to fall. Damp wood draws carpenter ants and termites, and damp basements draw silverfish, centipedes and the spiders that eat them. In winter, lake-effect snow piles up against the foundation and the porch, and keeps the wood there wet into spring.

Ravines, creek and lakefront

Euclid Creek and its wooded ravine run north through the area to the lake. Yards along the ravine and other wooded lots see more ticks, mosquitoes and raccoons. Homes close to the shore see the midge swarms that come off the lake, usually in June and September, and the spiders that follow them to the lights.

Apartments and shared walls

Euclid also has many apartment and condo buildings. With shared walls and pipes, cockroaches and mice move between units, so a problem in one apartment is best treated with its neighbors in mind. Our commercial page covers how we work with property managers.

Questions About Our Area

My town is just outside your list. Can you still come?

Often, yes. The list is the area we cover day to day; just past it, in places such as East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, Beachwood or Mentor, it depends on the job and the schedule. Call (216) 405-2839 and describe what you need. If we cannot fit it in, we will tell you so straight away rather than keep you waiting.

How quickly can you get to my town?

Same-week appointments are standard across the whole area, and emergency calls for rodents or stinging insects usually get a response within 24 hours.

My ZIP code is shared with a town you do not list. Does that matter?

Some ZIP codes cover parts of several towns, so the checker may say yes for an address that sits on the edge of the area. If in doubt, put your street address in the request form or call, and we will confirm.

Do you serve businesses outside Euclid too?

Yes, within the same area. Restaurants, apartment buildings, offices and warehouses in the towns listed above can set up scheduled service; see our commercial pest control page.
